The chances are you’ve heard of superfoods. It became the trendy term for any foods that had super benefits for your body. The superfood craze has seen some of us switching out crisps for kale and our cokes for coconut water. Whilst the health implications of certain food have been widely documented, it is only recently that the benefits superfoods can also have on our skin have become known.

‘Superfood’ is a word that began life on health and wellbeing sites to describe foods packed full of goodness. Carrots are a great source of vitamin A. Vitamin A is good for clearing up blemish breakouts by preventing the build-up of cells in the skins outer layer. Overproduction of cells can lead to dead cells and sebum combining to block pores. Help ensure you have optimal levels of Vitamin A, by adding carrots to your diet. Watercress also contains vitamin A, as well as vitamin C. Vitamin C is important in your body as it is needed for growth and repair.

Which foods are good for my health?

Kale, perhaps the trendiest of superfoods, contains phytonutrients, which are found in plant foods and promote good health. Salmon is also super! It contains omega-3 fatty acids, which the body cannot produce by itself, and can help with joint pain. Eggs are superfoods which are particularly great for those looking to cut the calories in their diet, or have a more healthy breakfast. Eggs contain roughly 6 grams of protein but a mere 72 calories. Plus, eggs are incredibly versatile and easy for even novices to incorporate into meals.

Unlike a lot of other fruits, avocados are high in healthy fats (yes, fats can be healthy!) rather than carbohydrates. There also very special because they contain 20 different minerals and vitamins, including vitamins K, C & E. An additional benefit of these fruits is that they do not contain any cholesterol and are low in saturated fat.
